For assured seating, be here at the stroke of noon. After that, a fashionable mix of all ages and types pours in, making it a full house by 12:30PM with no letup in sight. What is the big draw? Artistic hot and cold salads, the tarte and winter dish or summer salad of the day, and calories-be-damned desserts. Cold salads include the Alexandria, designer greens topped with chèvre, raisins, carrots, and apples. The Riviéra is a mix of tomatoes, feta cheese, potatoes, onions, olives, eggs, and anchovies ina basil-flavored vinaigrette dressing. If you would like a gratin of chicken, mushrooms, and potatoes on a bed of lettuce, order the Paysanne. Fish fanciers will want to order La Marée, a gratin of mussels and pasta flavored with oregano. The list of daily tartes is long...you could probably go every day for three weeks and never have the same one twice. Desserts stay about the same, so you will always be assured of the lemon or orange tartes, fresh fruit charlotte in the summer, and chestnut cake in the winter.
