Where do regular Parisians find an affordable meal in this business quarter, which is not known for economy eats? They head to Saveur et Salon, where you can rub elbows at noon with a smartly dressed business clientele and in the evening with mellow neighbors of all ages and dress. It is a good idea to reserve, and when you do, avoid the downstairs, which is hot and smoky. The main dining room may be a bit short on French atmosphere, but the food and snappy service more than make up for the sober decor. To keep things interesting at lunch for the rgulars, the formule changes daily. True, dinner will set you back half again as many euros, but the selection is more interesting. Start with a salad of pencil-slim green beans, pine nuts, and shavings of Parmesan cheese on a bed of bitter greens. For vegetarians, there is always a pasta and risotto choice, plus five fish selections. Meat eaters can dig into veal with mushrooms, lamb cooked with five spices, or chicken with buttery herb mashed potatoes. The dessert of your chocolate dreams is the warm moelleux au chocolat, glace Grand Marnier.
