It would be hard to imagine a more regal food shopping experience than at Hediard, which anchors one corner of place de la Madeleine, the gourmet equivalent of Rodeo Drive. Founded in 1854, Hediard was the first retail food purveyor to introduce Parisians to exotic foods from around the world, and today this gourmet fantasyland still carries the best products from far-flung places. Its bright-red branches located throughout Paris are, in a word, fabulous. The stores are beautifully laid out and the staff is exceptionally helpful, even with the most novice gourmand. Just go in to look if all you need is a delicious feast for the eyes.
